I went in expecting a dumb, fun action movie...and I went out getting a dumb, fun action movie. Indeed it has a very generic plot with very silly characters who speaks very cheesy lines - but it does have some cool moments, too.
The overall plot is kind of generic & dull...and though it is not good, it is not the thing that troubles me most. In fact, it is the moments in between when we see these silly characters do things that just doesn't make any sense. Worse still, the dialogue is very cheesy most of the time. As such, even the humour doesn't come through most of the time - the jokes are not laughable. Which is why I can easily say that this is not a well made movie at all.
That being said, the movie does have its cool moments. Donnie Yen kicking ass is never boring to watch. And the opening sequences (first 10-15 minutes) are pretty solid. And some of the twists/revelations are pretty cool. And unlike some movies (ehm...Suicide Squad), the music in this film is quite good, and I like the mix of songs & scores. Musics may not the most critical piece of a movie, but credit where credit is due.
So overall the film is not a well made movie at all. The generic plot might have been acceptable if not for the silly characters & the cheesy dialogue. But it does have its cool moments, so it is not a boring experience. And someone may have mentioned this, but now that I think about it, it does feel a bit like a second-rate Fast & Furious movie.
VERDICT: 50/100
If you are a fan of the XXX franchise, I think you may just like this film. For most people, I would say its not totally worth the price of a movie ticket - though its a good Cable watch.
